Boletín eléctrico in Tenerife, explained

The boletín eléctrico, officially the Certificado de Instalación Eléctrica (CIE), certifies that an installation meets the low-voltage regulation (REBT). Without a valid one, the distributor will not connect or change certain supplies.

Ask us about your case

When it is usually asked for

  • A new electricity supply (alta nueva)
  • Reconnection after the supply has been off for a long time
  • Increasing contracted power above what the existing certificate allows
  • Significant changes, for example single-phase to three-phase
  • Older installations: a certificate around 20 years old may need renewing when the contract changes

Cases vary between distributor, retailer and property, so we check yours before any work starts.

What the process looks like

  1. Inspection. The installation is checked against the REBT: consumer unit, earthing, circuits, protections.
  2. Corrections. Anything that does not comply is listed and quoted, then fixed.
  3. Testing. Insulation, earth resistance, RCD trip times, measured and recorded.
  4. Certificate. The certificate is issued and registered, then used by the distributor or retailer.

What usually needs fixing first

ItemCommon problem in older properties
EarthingNo earth electrode, or earth resistance too high
Consumer unitSingle RCD, no labels, undersized main switch
CircuitsFewer circuits than ITC-BT-25 requires; cable too thin for the breaker
BathroomsSockets or lights inside the protected zones around the bath or shower
OutdoorFittings not rated for outdoor use; corrosion from salt air
